Player Spotlight: Ponyo, the Terran God from Ladder Legends Academy!
I’ve been playing StarCraft II for about 10 years, with roughly 25,000 games under my belt. In January 2024, after years of grinding on my own without guidance, I finally broke into Masters 3. Around that time, I began competing in tournaments, but I consistently fell just short.
By mid-2025, I decided it was time to take the next step and invested in coaching from a professional player. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to expectations. I didn’t feel like I gained meaningful insight, and when my MMR naturally improved, those gains were attributed to the coaching and used to promote additional, expensive sessions. Also, I never surpassed my existing peak during the coaching with this individual. After spending around $2,000 CAD, the dynamic also became uncomfortable. What initially felt like a supportive relationship turned transactional, with pressure to continue purchasing coaching despite my financial situation after graduating college.
When I eventually explained that I couldn’t continue due to upcoming life commitments, including getting married, I was told, “I’m happy for you, but I can’t keep talking like this. I need to prioritize my students.” That moment made it clear the relationship was purely conditional.
Feeling discouraged, I came across LadderLegends through a recommendation from GamerRichy. I had interacted with him briefly in the past, but at the time I was still in Gold league and lacked the fundamentals to fully benefit from his advice. This time was different.
I joined LadderLegends initially for the coaching and high level VODs, but what I found was far more valuable. I received timely, detailed feedback on my games, answers to specific questions, and structured guidance for tournament preparation.
Since joining, my results have improved significantly. I’ve had five Top 8 finishes in online cups this year, finished last season in Grandmaster, and reached a new personal peak of 4869 MMR today. More importantly, I feel far more confident and in control of my gameplay.
Beyond the results, the community is what truly sets LadderLegends apart. It’s supportive, driven, and genuinely focused on helping each other improve, not just as players, but as people. On top of that, LadderLegends actively strengthens the StarCraft II scene by contributing to prize pools, hosting tournaments, and organizing masterclasses with world class players like Serral and HeroMarine.
If you’re serious about improving and want to be part of something that genuinely elevates both you and the community, LadderLegends is one of the best investments you can make.
